Savannah man assembling drones to save lives

Video–Fox 28 News

Drones have been used as toys and in more extreme cases, even weapons. One Savannah man is turning his toy into a life-saving tool.

For the last two and a half years, Craig Davidenko has been combining his love for drones and media. Now, he’s flying into new territory.

Davidenko’s company Drone Media is working to outfit swarms of 20-100 drones with thermal imaging and biometrics. His hope is that the unmanned aerial vehicles will have the capability to search, find and rescue people in distress.

“It hit me kind of like a brick in the side of the head that this was the next greatest technology,” Davidenko said.Drone Media has partnered with Astral AR out of Austin, Texas to create the drone software necessary for this vision. The group’s partnership has already helped with response time in emergency situations.Davidenko explained, “We can be able to go into an area and hover in places and get into areas that maybe we couldn’t get into as a first responder.”

Not only is there an element of easier access with drones, but also less risk to human life.

Drone Media has already participated in disaster relief simulations with the drones. Davidenko’s work has even landed him opportunities to share his vision with government departments including FEMA.

This drone enthusiast says the sky is the limit for drone technology.
